Cat Stevens, also known as Yusuf Islam, is a British singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, humanitarian, and education philanthropist.
He is the son of Ingrid Maria Elisabet (Wickman) and Stavros Georgiou. His father was born in Tala, Cyprus. His mother was born in Gävle, Sweden. His second cousin is Swedish actress and comedian Sissela Kyle.
He took on the name Yusuf Islam after converting to Islam. He is married to Fauzia Mubarak Ali, with whom he has five children.
Cat’s paternal grandfather was named George Georgiou.
Cat’s maternal grandfather was David Wickman (the son of Karl Gustav Wickman and Klara Fredrika Stenholm). David was born in Hammar, Örebro län. Karl was the son of Nils Gustav Jansson and Eva Kristina Wickman. Klara was the daughter of Nils Fredrik Stenholm and Anna Greta Johansdotter.
